Small Wind Turbines

Over the last few years, wind and solar proponents have been battling it out to take the top spot in the clean energy discussion. However, when it comes down making a purchase on a smaller scale, solar is king. Solar panels are smaller, more discreet and, most importantly, they’re a proven commodity.

Still, that doesn’t mean they’re always the best option. According to Earth2Tech, the “small” wind turbine market is expected to double by 2013. By the way, I put “small” in quotes because were talking small in terms of output (100KW or less), not size. Look at the 100KW turbine in the picture and you’ll see what I’m talking about. More »

Wind energy stocks

December 22nd, 2010 | No Comments | Posted in solar power, wind power

Wind energy stocks provide an alternative investment option for individuals or companies who are looking at supporting the development of alternative energy sources throughout the world for both domestic and commercial applications. The ability to purchase stocks in companies that specialize in wind energy production (either pure wind energy or a combination of wind energy and an alternative) allows individuals to profit from the growing trend of alternative energy sources while at the same time supporting the production and development of environmentally friendly energy production worldwide. World’s Largest Wind Turbine

March 7th, 2010 | No Comments | Posted in alternative energy sources, wind power

World’s Largest Wind TurbineAs fossil fuels continue to diminish and climate change poses an ever-increasing threat, scientists around the world are searching for new and more efficient methods of generating energy. Wind energy is one of the more promising alternative energy sources and Norwegian scientists are currently in the development stages of what promises to be the world’s largest wind turbine. As if creating the biggest wind turbine in the world was not enough, it also floats. Current plans for the world’s largest wind turbine have the machine standing 533 feet tall.
The proposed rotor diameter of this machine is 475 feet. Obviously, these gargantuan dimensions make it difficult to imagine many places able to accommodate such a device. Fortunately, the floating design makes the turbine suitable for open ocean use.

Wind Energy Basics

February 28th, 2010 | No Comments | Posted in wind power

Wind Energy BasicsWe have been harnessing the wind’s energy for hundreds of years. From old Holland to farms in the United States, windmills have been used for pumping water or grinding grain. Today, the windmill’s modern equivalent—a wind turbine—can use the wind’s energy to generate electricity.

How It Works

Wind turbines, like windmills, are mounted on a tower to capture the most energy. More »

New Wind Power Technology

February 25th, 2010 | No Comments | Posted in wind power

Wind Power TechnologyWind power has recently received a nice boost as one of the hottest forms of energy on the market. When comparing the recent market growth against all forms of energy, both renawables and non-renewables, wind turbines seem to be jumping to the head of the pack. While it still has a way to go before it catches up to solar, it is gaining ground rather quickly. Something that will help pick up the pace even further is new technology that is coming from FloDesign. Their truly unique wind turbine is actually based on the design of a jet engine More »

Is It Possible To Convert To 100% Wind Power?

February 25th, 2010 | No Comments | Posted in wind power

converting wind energyWith all the talk of going green, the question had been thrown out many times if there will ever be a time that we can use nothing but renewable energy to power our world. A small island in Denmark is trying answer that question with a resounding yes as they power up every single day via nothing but wind power. The Danish island is the ideal setting as the wind literally never stops blowing. The North Sea offers the perfect opportunity to capitalize on the winds that come off of the sea and for them to use wind power as their primary source of power. More »

How much electricity can a wind turbine produce?

February 24th, 2010 | No Comments | Posted in wind power

How much electricity can a wind turbine produceWind energy is becoming very popular renewable energy sector, not only in United States but worldwide. As the wind energy sector becomes more popular, the homeowners want to know much more about wind turbines, mostly how much do these systems cost, and how much electricity is wind turbine capable to produce.

When it comes down to costs of harnessing wind energy it has to be said that this renewable energy sector is becoming more More »

Is wind turbine noise really a health issue?

February 24th, 2010 | No Comments | Posted in wind power

Wind energy is becoming more and more popular renewable energy source, and large wind turbines are now installed in many parts of the world to harness the energy from the wind and generate electricity. Wind energy is environmentally friendly energy source with no emissions but there are some who say that wind turbine noise is a health issue.

Recently there were some reports that said how about 20% of wind farms tend to generate More »

Wind turbines – Environmental effects

February 24th, 2010 | No Comments | Posted in wind power

large wind turbinesWind energy is much more environmentally friendly energy source than fossil fuels, though it also has certain (minor) environmental disadvantages that need to be mentioned. This means that wind energy can also have some negative impact on environment but this impact is definitely not enough for wind energy to be described as not being environmentally friendly. Through this article I will mention certain issues that worry environmentalists when discussing large wind power projects.

The negative story with wind turbines usually starts with noise pollution. Large wind turbines with huge blades in areas with high wind speeds are more More »
